“ART AND INFORMATION AGAINST THE VIOLENCE”

“Youth for Europe” Action A.1 exchange program

1. Exchange event in Varna and Sofia, Bulgaria (21.01.2000 – 31.01.2000), in the frame of which we will host participants from 13 countries and will exchange ideas in the ways of using art and information as a tools against the violence;

2. Establishment of a network of organizations exploring the project problem and preparing the printed and www version of material called “Art and Information as tools against the Violence”

The exchange methods:

The exchange event in Varna and Sofia will use the following approach and methods:

  • intercultural learning: by the help of games and simulations the participants will exchange the ideas and problems of youth exchanges and using art and information against the violence;
  • short seminar and presentations: organizations will present their experience in youth work and their projects;
  • exhibition: by the help of traditional (posters and pictures) and modern (video, sound and WWW sites) each organization will present themselves and their main projects and also their experience related to the topic of the exchange;
  • working in a small groups: participants will share their ideas about the problems and future of youth exchanges in the United Europe, methods of preventing the violation by the help of art and information, problems of identity and isolation etc.
  • workshops on impact of the art and information in the civil society;

Student Computer Art Society /SCAS/ is a national student non-profit, non-governmental association. Main types of activities:

1/ Organizing forums; 2/ Supporting youth projects; 3/ Youth information processing and exchange; 4/ Partnership with governmental and non- governmental institutions.

Student Computer Art Society /SCAS/ has been established in 1991, officially registered 1992 in Bulgaria as youth NGO and involves students and young experts working in the field of youth information processing, computer arts, technology and modern arts, etc. SCAS is a national association and has divisions in 7 towns in Bulgaria and in 9 universities. We are co-founder and member of the National Youth Council of Bulgaria and we are partners of all the state institutions working on youth problems.

Since its founding in 1992, the association has organized more than 95 activities in the field of youth information, computer and electronic arts and general youth activities. In 1994, SCAS has initiated the project for the establishment of network of youth information centers in Bulgaria. The project has been approved by the Committee for Youth, Physical Education and Sport of Bulgaria and has been admired by the Youth Directorate of CE. In 1997, SCAS has established National Student Internet Center in Sofia. You could see SCAS events for 1998 in our WWW server http://www.scas.acad.bg. The main aim of this site is to publish: student and youth projects, youth organisation addresses, future activities, job and education opportunities and other useful information concerning young people.

Costs of the course and compensations:

  • board and lodging are provided by the hosting organization and are covered by the project budget;
  • 80% of the travel expenses will be reimbursed on the basis of the most economic transport fairs (APEX, student fare etc.); Also there are limitations for the travel reimbursements, depending on the country and the distance, presented in the Table 1 (it will be sent to the selected participants).
  • Participation fee is 60$ for Western European Countries and 30$ for Eastern European countries; The fee will be deducted from the travel reimbursement;

Application and selection of participants:

  • Please, send filled application form (by fax, post or e-mail) to the address of SCAS; All the applications must be received before the deadline;
  • Participants will be selected by the Leadership Team and Organizing Committee of the course on the basis of: 1/ Different geographical areas and organizations; 2/ Experience, expectations and training needs; 3/ According to the above described profile of participants and the rules of “Youth for Europe Programme”; 4) According to the project partners proposals.

The accepted candidates will receive more detailed information and confirmation of their participation till 5.01.2000.
