VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS 1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0 & ISEA98

The Long Summer of Our Digital Dis/Content thrives upon VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS - the four highly successful new media art workshops which ran from May till September 1998, under the title of VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS. The four workshops were delivered at various collaborative venues in Sofia/BG, Rotterdam/NL, Tornio/Fin and Manchester/UK. They were each hosted and facilitated by the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, Liverpool/UK, Polar Circuit Association, Tornio/Finland, Soros Center for the Arts, Sofia/Bulgaria, V2_Organisation, Rotterdam/The Netherlands.

One of the central objectives of the VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS residencies was to encourage critical debate around issues engaging with art and technology practice. VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS attempted to get beyond the former east/west divide of Europe by expanding the opportunities for East and West European media art professionals to travel, research and collaborate in various media festival contexts. VIRTUAL REVOLUTIONS achieved this through a successful media lab residency framework.
